bio
Chip has been creating images for more than 20 years – first, as a boy capturing the people and scenes around his family’s homes in northern Delaware and on the coast of Connecticut, then as a serious amateur in college and while working in schools, and now as a professional. Chip’s portfolio includes assignment, editorial, commercial, and personal work.
Chip’s images reflect a style rather than a common subject. “Intimate”, “engaging”, and “colorful” are all words that have been used to describe his photographs. They capture the personality of a moment. Whether on the water at a regatta, in the classroom of a school, at an event, or on a quiet hillside, his images turn a fleeting moment into a lasting story.
Before turning professional, Chip spent ten years working at Westminster School, a nationally renowned boarding school in Connecticut. As an admissions counselor, interviewing taught Chip to quickly and accurately find the essence of a subject and capture it. He also served as the office’s in-house publications designer and led the teams that produced five of the school’s view books – all of which included his images. With ten years of experience producing marketing materials, Chip comes to a commercial or editorial shoots not only seeing the moment and the image but how a moment or an image can advance a product.
When not at work, Chip loves to spend time tinkering on his boat, working around the house, hiking, or reading – though what he’s reading usually has something to do with boats or photography!
